'Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three yrs and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.' James 5:17 & 18

The book of james taught us quite a few things on prayer. Earlier before the above verse, James told us to pray without doubting. He who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. He described the man who prays without believing as being unstable and not capable of receiving what he is praying for.

Prayers with faith and are fervent and consistent bring life to a lifeless situation. It brings hope in a hopeless situation. It brings out God into a world without God.

It order for our prayers to be effective like Elijah's, we need to believe when we pray and even when the situation may turn out to be different from what we pray, we still have to exercise faith and continue to pray in faith.

Our prayers also need to be fervent and consistent. You don't just pray for something for one day then stop praying for it. It must be fervent and consistent. The Lord has high regards on fervent and intensive prayers. 'The fervent and effective prayer avails much.'

The Word of God encourages us not to be weary in well-doing. Prayer is also a part of well doing to others. Let us not become weary while praying.

    God loves you!

    Deceiving yourself

Expressions "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving youself. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror, for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was." James 1:22-24

The Word of God is the reflection of what God has done and spoken to us. Our lives, however, are the reflection of what God has done for us, for others to see. To the believers, the Word of God act as a mirror for us to see our sins and true condition of our hearts. To the non-believer, we Christians act as a reflection of their own sins and disobedience. We are the light to the world and this light cannot be hidden.

Many of us would play the hyprocrisy, going to church, worshipping God in front of ppl and living sinful and wayward lives behind close curtains. Satan is the Father of all lies. He is also known as a deceiver. If we continues to think that we must look holy and good on the outside and not checking on our inside, we are just another Pharisee, whom are jealous when someone is doing better or living a purer life than they are.

'Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving youself.'

    Jesus loves you!

    The pure in heart

Expressions 'The pure in heart, shall see God.' Matthew

We always struggle to keep our hearts pure. What does it really mean to be pure in heart? Does it mean as long as we don't do wicked things, that means we are pure in heart? Or does it mean as long as we don't lust in our hearts, then we are pure in heart? We need to understand afresh concerning purity as a Christian, which is a lost attribute of God in many of our lives.

'The pure in heart shall see God.'
Over here, Jesus is referring to those people whose heart is pure in the eyes of God. They are a reflection of God's nature on earth and in heaven. Holiness comes first from a pure heart. From a pure heart, a person consecrates himself or herself further to the Lord and causing his or her actions and thoughts to be purified. Of course, the source of our purity and holiness comes from God's Spirit, the Holy Spirit. There are many Christians whose heart are not pure. There may be selfish motives, pride, lust, coveteousness or stubborness in their hearts, but they would think that they are pure in the eyes of God. They expect God to accept them just as they are without turning away from their sins or disobedience. However, the pure in heart, has none of those attributes influencing or controlling him or her. They are willing and ready to repent before God, for anything they know and are convicted by God not to do. They are willing to let go of their desires and pride, to please God. Thus, the love of God purifies their heart constantly when they do so. Thus, a man or woman's heart is transformed and changed as they willingly allow God and His love to be their prime motivation and the only thing in their heart. The person's priority will change, his or her will will change. His or her character will also change. Do we have that kind of heart? If not, we have to forgo our ways and desires, to be purified by His Spirit in our hearts.

    God loves you!

The revelation that changed my life

Expressions I received the Lord when I was 19 yrs old at my army camp. My life was filled with light, love and joy after my conversion. Before that, I was a gloomy, hateful and selfish person. The revelation that changed my life, was both the Word of God and His love. There are many things we try to change, many things we want to change but find it either hard or unable to. Unless, God shows more of Himself to us thru His Word and love, it is hard for us to change. Christians remain unfaithful because they lack the love to love God and we can't love God with own love. God has to send Jesus to love us while we were yet sinners, so that we can love God with the love of Christ. How much of Christ's love is in us?

    God bless!

    The broken Christian

Expressions 'If My people which are called by My name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.' 2 Chronicles 7:14

In the present time, where we Christians have become immune to sin and lawlessness, God is leading us back to His presence. We know that God is holy, and those who wants to draw near to Him will have to cleanse himself or herself from sin and impurities before we can truly walk closely with God.

    1. Don't take God's presence or grace for granted. I believe we have a misconception abt God's grace. God's grace is given not just to pardon and forgive sins, but also given to help us live a godly and holy life. We can't live a righteous life on our own. However, many of us have thought that God is a forgiving God more than an empowering God. Thus, their Christian life is like a yo-yo. Living at the crossroad of worldly passions and the consciousness of God.
We can't love God and mammon. We either love one or hate the other. The verse does not mean only the love of money, but other things as well.
'Whoever loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.' 1 John

    2. Repentance is needed for personal revival. The opening verse reveals to us that there is a condition for God's total forgiveness. Yes! God's forgiveness comes with a price and the condition is our repentance. If we don't repent of our sins, no forgiveness will be given but only judgement awaiting for us. However, if we repent of our sins, God is always willing to forgive, heal and restore us back to Him again.

    Jesus loves you!
