    Spiritual Gifts and Calling
    Friday, 18 February 2005 @ 09:11 AM SGT

Expressions Many of us have misread the call of God. I personally know of friends who desire to be a prophet, a pastor and an evangelist without any anointing and spiritual gifts to match it. The gifts of any ministry are different because the calling is different. For example, the gifts of an evangelist and a prophet are different from one another because the ministry and purposes are different.

Now, spiritual gifts does not equate to a specific call to the five spiritual offices of God, namely: Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher. If we have a gift to discern spirits, that does not mean we are a prophet. If we have an anointing to heal sicknesses, that also does not mean that we are an evangelist.

    1. Spiritual Gifts and Calling are different. The first is the spiritual ability and endowment for the call/work. The latter is the call or work itself. Timothy was called to do the work of an evangelist. He has a spiritual gift confirmed by Apostle Paul to help him do his work from God.

    2. Callings are determined by God not by man. It is indeed very sad to see many believers imposing themselves with a call or going into a specific ministry without God leading or calling them into it. They went into it themselves and according to their own desires.

    3. Character and Calling.
Aposlte Paul said that if we have super powerful and great gifts but does not have God's kind of love, we are empty vessels which make the most noise. We are nothing. It is grieving to see that many are gifted but not compassionate and humble. Many are talented but not gentle and willing to yield. Yes! It is of vital importance that our service must match our character, if not, we may look good on the outside, but empty or without substance in the inside.

    God bless you.

    The Intercessor

Expressions During my visit to some churches, I have realised that God has been raising up some intercessors among His people. This is not to say that God has special favor on some, but that some has been led by the Spirit to cry out to God in a time as this.

All believers are called to pray and fast.
Some even to a deeper dimension of prayer: Intercession.

    1. The difference between a believer who prays and a potential intercessor is the spirit of the believer. Believers who recognise prayer as an important key for changes in other's lives and situations, uses prayer and intercedes often.

' and this woman (Anna) was a widow of about eighty four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.' Luke 2

There were some examples in the Bible who often seperate themselves in prayer and intercession.

    2. There is an anointing in fervent prayer (intercession).

'Elijah is a man like us, but he prayed earnestly that it would not rain... and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.' James 5

    3. Prayer can be a spiritual weapon against the enemy.

'Jesus said, 'This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.' ' Mark 9

    Happy praying!

    The backslidden Christian

Expressions When the heart is no longer burning with the love of God, but is replaced by something or someone else, other than God, be cautious.
When our heart's desires is untamed and always going after this world's goods and pleasure, no matter how loud we pray in church, there will be a hinderance to our prayers.
Christians often do not realise the importance of going after a closer relationship with God after their sinner's prayer. We have to move on and draw nearer to God each day. Christians and Churches are not commented by God for their good establishment or for their number of years being a Chrisitan or the number of times they attend a prayer meeting or Christian activity. The Church, activites, meeting and seminar are not avenues to which we can be closer to God. Though more knowledge, zeal and passion can be developed through these, it is no doubt that our relationship with Jesus is a personal one and at times, it is even lonely.

The backslidden Christian can be very involved in Christian meetings, yet their heart can also be far from Him.

How do we measure our love for God?
Thru the number of church meetings we attend, thru the number of ministries we are involve or thru the constantly giving of our tithes and offerings?

Now, God doesn't desire sacrifices without obedience. To have a clearer understanding, God wants our hearts more than our goods.

The measurement of our love for God is not measured by the above. However, it is measure thru our heart. It is the heart which God is looking at.

A new believer can have a greater love for God than a ten years old pastor. So can a believing rubbish collector love God more than a believing managing director.

Let us not judge by what we see, but by and thru the Spirit of God who lives in us.

    Badminton Kakis Cell group

Message Board Hi All Badminton kakis in Christ

    Just a thought and proposal.

A calling to all badminton kakis in Singapore who are in Christ to gather together - to form a badminton-interest cell group.

Mission - to share our passion for the game and to outreach to fellow badmintons kakis who are pre-believers.

Every weekdays evening and weekends all over Singapore, you will find many pre-believers badminton kakis groups gathering at sport and community halls playing their favorite game.

These are fields for harvests...of pre-believers.

As a badminton interest cell group, we could initiate and invite them to have a friendly and social game (emphasis is not competition and who is better) - as a starter and gradually reaching and sharing with them the Gospel message on salvation.

It is the love and passion for the game and also the joy of playing with fellows kakis that bonds many members of such badminton groups you see gathering at sports hall every weekends.

Likewise, this goes for any tennis, bowling, football, basketball...any game or interest cell group.

So brothers and sisters in Christ, what say you folks on the proposal? This is open for discussion and feeback.

    Happy Smashing!
